AIRMET – Providing Forecasts for Pilots

AIRMET (Airmen’s Meteorological Information) is a type of weather advisory issued to pilots in order to forewarn them of potentially unfavorable weather conditions. AIRMETs describe weather patterns with lower intensities than SIGMETs (significant meteorological information). They are issued to pilots in order to provide them with an overview of the current weather and to help them prepare for their flights accordingly. AIRMETs contain information such as turbulence, icing conditions, low-level wind shear, mountain obscurations, and restricted visibility. It is essential that pilots receive this information to ensure safety and to plan their flights according to weather patterns. Overall, AIRMETs provide an essential service that improves flight efficiency and safety.
