Approach: the phase of flight where an aircraft is descending towards a runway with the intention of landing. There are various types of approaches depending on whether the pilot is flying under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) or Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) conditions. During a VFR approach, the pilot can rely on visibility to navigate and must maintain visual contact with the runway throughout the descent. In contrast, during an IFR approach, the pilot relies solely on onboard instruments to navigate the descent and must communicate with air traffic control for guidance. Regardless of approach type, the pilot must adhere to strict procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe and successful landing.
