ASOS

Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) is a sophisticated weather reporting system that provides minute-by-minute surface observations through digitized voice broadcasts and printed reports. ASOS is designed to be the primary surface weather observing system in the United States. The system is capable of performing the basic weather observations necessary for generating an aviation routine weather report (METAR). ASOS is a critical tool used by meteorologists and pilots alike as it provides real-time, high-quality weather data which helps to ensure safe aviation operations. The system is deployed at thousands of airports across the country and is continuously monitored and updated to improve its accuracy and reliability.
