Definition of Aviatrix

Aviatrix is the term used to describe a female pilot. Although the term is no longer commonly used, it acknowledges the crucial role that women played in early aviation history. The word “aviatrix” brings attention to the historic struggles and achievements of women in a male-dominated profession. Nowadays, a female working as a pilot is simply called a “pilot” regardless of gender, highlighting the progress made towards gender equality in the aviation industry.
