Definition of AWOS

The Automated Weather Observing System, commonly known as AWOS, is a computerized system that is responsible for collecting meteorological data from sensors installed at an airport. AWOS collects and processes information such as temperature, wind speed, wind direction, precipitation, and cloud cover, among others. This real-time data is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of aviation activities, as it helps pilots make informed decisions regarding takeoff, landing, and flight routes. AWOS systems are designed to meet international standards and can operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing continuous and accurate weather information around the clock. AWOS has contributed significantly to enhancing the safety and efficiency of air travel by providing real-time weather data that helps pilots avoid potentially hazardous weather conditions.
