What is AZ?

AZ is the former abbreviation for Alitalia airline, which ceased to exist in October 2021. Today, the ITA Airways has taken over the operations of Alitalia, and the AZ code is used for flights operated by ITA Airways. The code AZ has a long history, dating back to the founding of Alitalia in 1947, and it has become an iconic symbol for Italian aviation. As a member of the SkyTeam alliance, AZ flights offered passengers access to a global network of destinations, as well as premium services such as Alitalia Lounges. While the name Alitalia may have disappeared, the AZ code lives on as a reminder of the airline’s legacy.
