Black Boxes Definition

Black boxes are the informal term used to describe the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR). While they are often referred to as black boxes, they are mostly brightly colored in orange and designed to survive a high impact crash. These devices are equipped with beacons to assist investigators in locating them quickly after an aircraft accident. The CVR records all sounds and conversations in the cockpit and cockpit area, while the FDR records vital information about the flight, such as altitude, airspeed, heading, and vertical acceleration. These black boxes are crucial in determining the cause of an aircraft accident and improving aviation safety.
