Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)” – A global standard for measuring time that corresponds to the local time for the time zone beginning at the prime meridian, passing through Greenwich, England. UTC is a highly accurate and stable global time scale that is used as a reference for timekeeping across all nations and regions of the world. UTC accounts for seasonal variations in the earth’s rotation about the sun through the use of leap seconds and other adjustments. UTC is established by international agreement and maintained by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).
