Departure Procedures (DP)

Departure Procedures, commonly referred to as DPs, are pre-planned Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) Air Traffic Control (ATC) routes, published in a graphical and text format, for use by pilots during departures. These procedures are established to facilitate the safe and efficient flow of departing traffic and may include specific instructions on climb rates, turns, altitudes, and other parameters. When a pilot files an IFR flight plan, the DP for the departure airport is included in the clearance received from ATC. Pilots are required to adhere to the DP instructions unless instructed otherwise by ATC. By following the DP, pilots can ensure a standardized, safe, and efficient departure from the airport.
