Kilometer

A widely used unit of measurement for distance in most countries of the world, equivalent to 1000 meters. It is approximately equal to 0.621 miles or 3281 feet. The prefix “kilo” derives from the Greek word khίlioi, meaning “thousand.” Kilometers are used extensively in everyday life, from measuring the distance between cities and towns, to determining a runner’s progress in a marathon. The use of kilometers as a standardized unit of measurement promotes accuracy and ease in communication, allowing individuals and organizations to estimate distance more precisely and uniformly across different contexts.
