MOCA: Minimum Altitude for Obstruction Clearance

MOCA is the minimum altitude published between radio fixes on VOR airways, off-airway routes, or route segments. This altitude ensures obstacle clearance for the entire route segment and acceptable navigational signal coverage within 25 statute (22 nautical) miles of a VOR. It is designed to ensure safety and prevent collisions with obstacles during flight. The MOCA should be considered as the minimum safe altitude, and pilots are advised not to fly below this altitude unless absolutely necessary. It is essential to check the MOCA before the flight to ensure a safe journey while adhering to federal aviation regulations.
