Definition of MSL

Mean Sea Level (MSL) is the average height of the surface of one or more bodies of water on Earth. It is used as a reference to measure heights and elevations of various objects or locations with respect to the level of the sea.

MSL is determined by taking into account the gravitational effects of the sun and moon on Earth’s oceans and tides. It is constantly changing due to various natural factors such as sea level rise, subsidence, and tectonic movement.

MSL is of utmost importance in fields such as geography, cartography, and engineering. It helps in the accurate mapping and measurement of land and water bodies, as well as in the planning and construction of structures such as dams, bridges, and highways.
