Definition of National Security Area (NSA)

National Security Areas (NSAs) are designated areas of airspace with specific vertical and lateral dimensions established in locations where the safety and security of ground facilities are of the utmost importance. Pilots are always advised to avoid flying through these areas unless it is absolutely necessary. Temporary flight restrictions may be implemented in NSAs to provide a heightened level of security and safety. Regulations regarding these restrictions are usually communicated via Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs). The primary objective of NSAs is to ensure the protection of ground facilities from potential threats, including terrorism, sabotage, and other illicit activities.
