The Definition of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs)
NOTAMs are official notices provided by aviation authorities that contain the most up-to-date information about airports and changes that affect the national airspace system, especially those that are time-critical and of particular concern to instrument flight rules. These notices are issued as a form of communication between aviation officials and pilots, and they can include information about runway closures, navigational aids that are out of service, taxiway closures, and other factors that could affect the safety and efficiency of flights. Pilots are required to consult NOTAMs before every flight to ensure that they have access to the most current information available and can adjust their plans accordingly. In this way, NOTAMs are essential tools for promoting safe and efficient air travel.
