Definition of open-jaw itinerary

An open-jaw itinerary is a travel plan that involves departing from one location and returning to a different one. This type of itinerary allows travelers to visit multiple destinations without having to double back to their starting point. For instance, a traveler may fly into one city and depart from another, thus creating a “jaw” shape on the map.

Open-jaw itineraries can also involve purchasing round-trip transportation to one destination, using another form of transportation to reach a second location, and then resuming the initial transportation to return to the starting point. This design allows travelers to visit two or more destinations that are not in close proximity while avoiding backtracking and wasting time.

Open-jaw itineraries are popular among travelers who want to see more of a region or country during their trip. They offer greater flexibility and can often be less expensive than booking separate one-way tickets. However, it is important to carefully consider transportation options and plan ahead to ensure a smooth itinerary.
