Overbooking

« Back to Glossary Index

Overbooking is a common practice that involves airlines selling more seats than the number of available seats on a flight. The aim is to compensate for any no-show passengers. However, it can lead to problems if every passenger shows up. This practice may result in airlines bumping passengers, often involuntarily, which can create significant consumer dissatisfaction. Overbooking can also occur in the hotel industry to some extent.
