Pilot Weather Report (PIREP)

A Pilot Weather Report (PIREP) refers to a report submitted by a pilot about meteorological conditions experienced during a flight. The report is used to provide valuable information to flight services and weather forecasters to fill in data gaps between reporting stations. These reports usually contain information about cloud tops, icing, turbulence, wind shear, and other in-flight weather-related phenomena. PIREPs are critical for enhancing aviation safety by providing real-time information about the weather conditions and possible hazards encountered in different flight regions. They also provide pilots with information that they can use to adjust their flight plans and make informed decisions about their routes. The use of PIREPs has significantly improved aviation safety, and pilots are encouraged to submit these reports to help their fellow aviators stay safe in the skies.
