Timed Turn

A Timed Turn refers to a specific maneuver in aviation where the pilot utilizes both the clock and the turn coordinator to alter the heading by a set number of degrees within a certain period. Essentially, the pilot must plan the turn to align with the required turn time and degree. This technique is usually used in conjunction with an Instrument Landing System (ILS) procedure or other similar navigational aids. This type of turn technique is essential in flying, as it requires the pilot to coordinate both time and turn correctly, ensuring accurate positioning to adhere to flight schedules and aviation safety protocols. In aviation training, pilots are often taught to perform Timed Turns to help them develop their situational awareness, judgment, precision, and proficiency in executing complex maneuvers in the air.
