Final approach fix (FAF) is a designator of a fix point used for executing the final approach of an aircraft to an airport. It marks the beginning of the final approach segment of the instrument flight rules (IFR) flight. On government aeronautical charts, FAFs are identified via a symbol of a Maltese cross for non-precision approaches and a lightning bolt symbol for precision approaches.
