Aircraft Accident Definition

An occurrence that takes place during the operation of an aircraft from the time when any person boards the aircraft with the intention of flight until all such persons have disembarked, resulting in death, serious injury, or substantial damage to the aircraft. Such incidents may arise from various contributing factors, including human error, mechanical malfunction, adverse weather conditions, or other circumstances that compromise the safety and integrity of the aircraft and its occupants. The term “aircraft accident” applies to any mishap that entails significant consequences, regardless of the size, type, or purpose of the aircraft. The investigation and prevention of aircraft accidents are critical aspects of aviation safety management, involving multiple stakeholders and specialized procedures aimed at identifying and addressing the underlying causes and risk factors.
