ASRAirport Surveillance Radar

ASR is a type of radar system used in approach control to detect and display an aircraft’s position within the terminal area. This technology provides air traffic controllers with crucial information about the location, altitude, and speed of aircraft approaching or departing from an airport.

Using radio waves to detect and track aircraft, ASR allows controllers to monitor air traffic within a designated airspace and ensure safe separation between aircraft. ASR can also detect obstacles, such as birds or buildings, that may pose a hazard to aircraft.

ASR is an essential component of the air traffic control system, helping to ensure the safe and efficient movement of aircraft in and out of airports. Its real-time data and accurate tracking capabilities are critical for maintaining the highest levels of safety in the aviation industry.
