Airworthiness Directive (AD)

Airworthiness Directive (AD) is a regulatory notice issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to the registered owner of an aircraft to inform them of a condition that could affect the continued airworthiness of the aircraft. These conditions could arise due to defects, wear and tear, malfunctions, or any other issues that may impede the safe operation of the aircraft.

The AD requires the owner of the affected aircraft to take specific corrective actions to address the condition. The corrective actions could involve inspections, repairs, or replacements as necessary, and must be carried out in accordance with the instructions provided by the AD. The FAA issues ADs to ensure that all aircraft operating under its jurisdiction adheres to the safety standards set by the agency, thereby promoting safety in the aviation industry.

The AD is a critical tool in ensuring the safe and airworthy operation of aircraft. It provides timely and necessary information to aircraft owners, enabling them to take prompt and appropriate actions to address issues that could threaten the safety of the flight. The AD process ensures that any issues affecting the airworthiness of an aircraft are effectively identified and corrected, promoting the safety of passengers, crew, and the public in general.
