Alternate Airport: A designated airport listed in an IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) flight plan as a backup destination in case landing at the intended airport is not advisable or possible due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. This airport must meet certain criteria, including having suitable weather conditions, operational availability, runway length, and facilities to accommodate the aircraft. Pilots must have a detailed understanding of alternate airports along their flight route to ensure the safety and success of their flight plan.
