ASRAirport Surveillance Radar

ASR stands for Airport Surveillance Radar, a type of radar system used at airports to detect and track incoming and outgoing air traffic. The ASR typically operates at a frequency band of 2.7 GHz to 2.9 GHz and can detect aircraft up to a distance of 60 nautical miles and an altitude of 25,000 feet. The radar works by emitting electromagnetic pulses and measuring the time it takes for the pulses to bounce back off an object, such as an aircraft. The ASR is an essential tool for air traffic controllers as it provides real-time information on the location, altitude, and speed of aircraft within its coverage area. This enables controllers to efficiently manage air traffic and ensure the safety of all flights. ASRs are typically located near the airport and can be a standalone unit or integrated with other radar systems.
