Canard

« Back to Glossary Index

Canard: a control surface located ahead of the main wing to provide additional lift and longitudinal stability to an aircraft. It can be either a fixed or movable surface that includes its own set of control surfaces to manipulate the aircraft’s pitch and altitude. The canard design is an alternative to the more conventional tailplane configuration and is often used to improve the aircraft’s overall maneuverability and efficiency.
