Changeover point (COP)

« Back to Glossary Index

Changeover Point (COP) is a specific location along a route or airway segment where a pilot should switch navigation guidance from one navigation facility or waypoint to another. The COP is determined by considering the accuracy and reliability of navigation aids and their coverage area along the route. At COP, the pilot can verify that the aircraft is on track and identify the new navigation facility or waypoint to be used for the next phase of the flight. The COP helps maintain the safety and efficiency of the flight by ensuring that the aircraft stays on the designated flight path and does not deviate from it.
