Class D Airspace Definition

Class D airspace refers to the section of airspace surrounding airports that have an operational control tower and extends from the surface to an altitude of 2,500 feet above the airport elevation, as charted in MSL (Mean Sea Level). The specific configuration of each Class D airspace area is unique and tailored to the needs of the airport.

When instrument procedures are published, the airspace is typically designed to contain those procedures. This type of airspace is critical for ensuring the safe and efficient flow of air traffic around busy airports. Pilots flying in Class D airspace must follow specific rules and procedures to ensure the safety of all aircraft in the area.
