Definition of Class E Airspace

Class E airspace is a type of controlled airspace that is distinct from Class A, Class B, Class C, and Class D airspace. Unlike uncontrolled airspace, Class E airspace is regulated by air traffic control and pilots must follow specific rules and procedures in order to enter and operate within it. This type of airspace covers a wide variety of locations and altitudes, ranging from areas surrounding small airports to airspace over water and remote regions. While Class E airspace is not as tightly controlled as Class A, B, C or D airspace, it still requires pilots to follow specific requirements for communication and visibility in order to ensure safety for all aircraft operating within it. Overall, Class E airspace is an important component of the national airspace system, providing flexibility and structure to help ensure the safe and efficient movement of air traffic over a broad range of locations and conditions.
