Definition of Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR)

A Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) is an aviation safety device that records audio from the flight deck. It captures the sound transmitted through flight crew headsets as well as from microphones placed in the cockpit. The recording provides crucial information that helps investigators understand any events that may have led to an accident or incident during the flight. The CVR plays a key role in accident investigation and reconstructing the sequence of events leading up to the accident. It is a critical part of the aircraft’s black box and is mandated by aviation authorities around the world. The CVR recording can be used to identify potential causes of accidents, improve flight crew training, and enhance aviation safety.
