Decision height (DH)

DH

Decision height (DH) is a predetermined altitude indicated on a precision approach chart, measured above the threshold elevation, where pilots must make a judgment call either to continue the approach or discontinue it and proceed to perform a missed approach procedure. DH serves as a critical point in the landing process where the pilot must make an instantaneous decision based on the available visual cues, such as runway lights, in case the pilot does not have a clear view of the runway. Maintaining complete situational awareness and good communication between the pilot and the control tower is paramount to ensure a safe landing during the DH.
