Delivery Flight” of an Aircraft

A delivery flight refers to the initial flight of an aircraft from the manufacturing location to the chosen airport or airfield of the new operator. Typically, airplanes are delivered to the major hub of an airline. However, some may be flown to specific locations to undergo additional modifications, including interior configuration or the installation of advanced amenities such as WiFi. Sometimes, these flights can also involve test flights and checks before the aircraft is fully handed over to the new owner. For example, the first Bombardier C Series CS100 (now Airbus A220) underwent a high profile delivery flight. The delivery flight marks an important moment in the manufacturing process of an aircraft and is a critical step towards providing industry-standard safety measures.
