The First Officer or FO is the Pilot who is second in command, usually seated on the right-hand side of the cockpit. The First Officer is responsible for assisting the Captain in all phases of flight, including takeoff, cruising, and landing. However, during critical stages of flight, such as takeoff and landing, the First Officer and the Captain work closely together to maintain safety and ensure that the aircraft is operated according to the standard operating procedures and checklists. The First Officer also monitors the flight instruments and systems during the flight, communicates with Air Traffic Control, and assists in making decisions regarding navigation, weather, and aircraft performance. The role of the First Officer is crucial in maintaining the safety of the aircraft, crew, and passengers.
