Flight Deck Definition
The flight deck is the operational center of the aircraft where the pilot and crew members control and monitor all aspects of the flight. Also known as the cockpit, the flight deck is located at the front of the aircraft and consists of the pilot’s seat and the instrument panels containing controls, switches, gauges, and displays.
From the flight deck, the pilot has a clear view of the runway, navigational instruments, and communication systems which are essential in monitoring the progress of the aircraft. The instrument panels provide critical data such as airspeed, altitude, fuel consumption, and other key information necessary for safe and efficient flight operations.
In addition, the flight deck is equipped with emergency equipment, including fire extinguishers, oxygen masks, and first aid kits. The flight deck crew members work together to communicate with the air traffic control, cabin crew, and maintenance personnel to ensure the smooth operation of the aircraft.
