Definition of FOD

FOD, or Foreign Object Debris, refers to any material that doesn’t belong to a certain area and may cause damage to equipment or pose a safety hazard to personnel. FOD can include anything from small pebbles to loose screws. In aviation, FOD is a serious concern as it can cause damage to aircraft, engines, and personnel. It can also lead to flight delays and cancellations. FOD prevention programs are in place to minimize the risk of FOD occurrence and ensure safety in the aviation industry. Such programs involve education, training, and regular inspections of work areas to remove any foreign objects and debris.
