Forced Landing

« Back to Glossary Index

Forced Landing – A landing that is conducted due to circumstances that leave the pilot with no other choice, such as engine failure, adverse weather conditions, or a medical emergency. This type of landing may or may not result in damage to the aircraft, but it is performed with the intention of minimizing any potential harm to the passengers, crew, and aircraft as much as possible. In some cases, forced landings may be planned as a precautionary measure, such as when the aircraft is running low on fuel and there are no nearby airports or landing areas. These landings require a high level of skill and training from pilots, as they must make split-second decisions and execute precise maneuvers to ensure a safe outcome. It is essential for pilots to always be prepared for a forced landing scenario and to have a solid understanding of the emergency procedures and equipment available to them.
