Frise-type Aileron

A Frise-type aileron is a type of aileron that is designed in such a way that the nose portion projects ahead of the hinge line. This means that when the trailing edge of the aileron moves up, the nose of the aileron projects below the wing’s lower surface, which produces some parasite drag. This drag helps in reducing the amount of adverse yaw. The design of the Frise-type aileron helps in improving the maneuverability of the aircraft. The increase in lift produced by the Frise-type aileron is achieved by increasing the drag on the descending wing. In this way, the Frise-type aileron acts like a spoiler, reducing the lift on the descending wing and enhancing the lift on the ascending wing. The use of Frise-type ailerons is common in both military and commercial aircraft, as it provides a considerable improvement in the overall performance of the aircraft.
