Fuel tankering

Fuel Tankering

Fuel Tankering is the practice of carrying excess fuel on an aircraft for a particular flight, more than what is required for the flight and enough to complete the return flight with the required reserves. Here, the excess fuel is carried for several operational reasons such as cost efficiency, availability or quality of fuel at the destination airport, or avoiding the need to refuel during a trip. This practice may appear profitable in terms of fuel and time savings. Still, it can lead to increased carbon emissions, decreased fuel efficiency, and high operation costs in the long run, making it an essential topic of concern for the airline industry.
