Ground Adjustable Trim Tab Definition

A ground adjustable trim tab is a fixed metallic surface, located on a control surface that can be bent in either direction while the aircraft is grounded, allowing the pilot to apply trim forces to the control surface. The purpose of this tab is to provide the pilot with an easy and quick way to adjust the position of the control surface and, consequently, the aircraft’s pitch or yaw. By adjusting the trim tab’s position, the airspeed and stability of the aircraft can also be fine-tuned, making it an essential tool to control an aircraft’s flight characteristics. Ground adjustable trim tabs can be found on various types of aircraft, including fixed-wing airplanes, helicopters, and gliders, and they play a fundamental role in ensuring safe and efficient flights.
