Longitudinal axis

« Back to Glossary Index

Longitudinal Axis: an imaginary line that passes through the center of gravity of an object or aircraft, running parallel to the fuselage centerline and from the nose to the tail. It is also known as the roll axis and is used for orientation and control of the aircraft’s movements. Rotating the ailerons causes the airplane to roll around the longitudinal axis.
