MCA: Minimum Crossing Altitude

The Minimum Crossing Altitude (MCA) is the lowest altitude at a particular location that is required for an aircraft to safely cross over a particular obstacle or terrain feature. It is denoted on an aeronautical chart and is mandatory for pilots to follow while flying in the specified geographical area. The MCA is crucial for ensuring the safety of aircraft during flight and is determined taking into account the surrounding terrain and obstacles. It is important to note that the MCA is not the same as Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) or Minimum En Route Altitude (MEA), which are used in different circumstances during flight. Instead, the MCA is specifically designed to ensure safe crossing of obstacles and terrain over a designated area.
