Metaplane

A metaplane is an air vehicle configuration that falls under the category of aerodynes but utilizes static lift to improve its overall stability. In simpler terms, a metaplane is an aircraft that relies on both aerodynamic lift generated by its wings and static lift generated by other means, such as rotors or propellers, to stay aloft. This unique design allows the metaplane to operate more efficiently and effectively than traditional aerodynes, as it is able to remain stable in a wider range of flight conditions. Although not commonly used in aviation today, metaplanes could potentially offer a viable alternative to traditional aircraft designs in certain niche applications or environments.
