Mode CAltitude Reporting Transponder Mode

Mode C is a type of altitude reporting transponder mode that is used in aviation. It operates on a radar frequency and communicates the altitude of the aircraft to air traffic control. This type of transponder mode is commonly found in commercial and private airplanes.

In addition to providing altitude information, Mode C also enables air traffic control to accurately track an aircraft’s altitude throughout its flight path. This is important for maintaining safe separation between aircraft and ensuring efficient routing of traffic.

Mode C works by using an onboard altimeter to calculate the altitude of the aircraft based on the atmospheric pressure. This altitude data is then transmitted to air traffic control via the transponder.

Overall, Mode C plays a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient air traffic control operations. Without this technology, it would be much more difficult for air traffic controllers to maintain situational awareness and safely manage the airspace.
