Multi-Function Display (MFD)

A Multi-Function Display, commonly abbreviated as an MFD, is a small screen (CRT or LCD) found in aircraft that presents an array of information to the pilot in various customizable formats. Serving as a cockpit display, these screens can receive and display information from a range of advanced avionics systems concurrently. The pilot can arrange this information and select various displays of his preference. In many instances, an MFD is employed in parallel with a primary flight display (PFD) to present a complete and integrated view of the aircraft’s performance and surrounding environment.
