North Atlantic Tracks

« Back to Glossary Index

North Atlantic Tracks (NAT) represent a designated network of routes that span eastward and westward over the North Atlantic Ocean, officially known as the North Atlantic Organized Track System (NAT-OTS). These routes are created to support air traffic control operations, defining the path that aircraft must follow to ensure proper separation and to take advantage of favorable flying conditions. In order for aircraft to fly on these routes, they need Oceanic clearance, which allows them to enter and navigate through oceanic airspace safely and efficiently.
