Definition of ODP
Obstacle Departure Procedures (ODP) are prescribed routes designed for aircrafts to navigate safely after takeoff in the presence of obstacles, terrain, or other factors that may compromise their clearance. The procedures aim at ensuring a smooth ascent, preventing crashes, and minimize noise disturbance to the neighboring communities.
ODPs are developed in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and regional authorities, and pilots have to comply with them to ensure safe takeoffs and departures. ODPs must be adhered to be all pilots, regardless of their experience levels or the type of aircraft being flown.
