What is PAPI?

PAPI stands for Precision Approach Path Indicator. It is a visual indicator that helps pilots to determine the correct approach path for landing on a runway. The system consists of four lights, which are arranged in a row, to provide visual cues to pilots. The lights can be either white or red depending on the angle of approach.

When a pilot sees two white and two red lights, it indicates that their approach is too low. If all lights appear red, their approach is too high. Conversely, when all lights are white, it means their approach is correct. The PAPI system is designed to help pilots achieve the correct approach angle, which ensures a safe landing.

In summary, PAPI is an essential tool for pilots that provides visual feedback on the approach path to ensure a safe landing.
