Radar Approach: Guiding Aircraft to a Safe Landing

During a radar approach, air traffic controllers use radar technology to monitor and guide an aircraft’s descent to an airport or heliport or to a specific runway. The controller provides vectors, or headings, to the pilot while also monitoring the flight’s progress with radar. With this information, the controller can guide the pilot safely through the descent and landing process. This technique is particularly useful in adverse weather conditions or when visibility is limited. The radar approach is a critical component of air traffic control, ensuring the safe and efficient flow of air traffic.
