Radio or Radar Altimeter

A radio or radar altimeter is an advanced form of electronic altimeter used in aircraft to determine the height of the aircraft from the surface of the ground. It accomplishes this by measuring the time required for a pulse of radio-frequency energy to travel from the aircraft to the ground and then return. The altimeter uses radio waves to determine the distance from the ground and then calculates the height of the aircraft based on this information. This system is critical for safe takeoff and landing of the aircraft, as well as during low-level flight in poor visibility conditions. The radio or radar altimeter plays an essential role in aviation safety by providing an accurate measurement of the aircraft’s height above the ground to the pilot and other crucial monitoring systems in the aircraft, allowing for safe and efficient operations.
