Definition of Required Navigation Performance (RNP)

Required Navigation Performance (RNP) refers to a specific level of accuracy required for aircraft operation, which is defined by a predetermined lateral area of confined airspace. To be RNP-certified, an aircraft must meet the required precision specifications and operate within the defined airspace without deviating from the pre-defined trajectory. Advanced avionics systems are used to achieve the required positional accuracy, allowing for more efficient and precise navigation, especially in challenging terrain and weather conditions. The RNP system enables airspace administrators to optimize the use of airspace, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance safety by ensuring safe separation of aircraft within the predefined airspace.
