Definition of “Segment

Segment refers to a single leg or part of a journey, typically pertaining to air travel. It involves a take-off and landing in an aircraft, and its duration lasts from when the boarding process begins until the passengers de-board the plane.

To elaborate, a segment can represent a direct flight between two points or a connection between two or more flights. For instance, if a passenger flies from San Francisco to New York but has a layover in Chicago, the itinerary consists of two segments.

In essence, a segment serves as a unit of measurement to describe a particular portion of a trip. It allows for the accurate recording and tracking of air travel and related expenses or rewards.
